DWARS approves decision in principle on merger Young Socialists

04 June 2025

The summer congress 2025 of DWARS agreed to the decision in principle on merging with the Young Socialists. If the merger between the two parent parties is approved at the GroenLinks and Labour Party congress on 21 June, DWARS will also push for a merger between the two youth organisations. At the JS, this will be voted on at their summer congress.

With 93 votes in favour and 10 against, this decision in principle was widely adopted by the members of DWARS. This means that the board of DWARS will work to merge the two youth organisations in the event that GroenLinks and Labour Party will merge. We understand that this raises many questions. To provide as much clarity as possible, we have prepared a document outlining the timeline for next year and answering the most frequently asked questions. You will find this document here. If you have any other questions about the merger, you can always reach the board at bestuur@dwars.org.

To manage the process towards the merger, we also approved five joint committees at the summer congress and members who are part of these on behalf of DWARS. In addition, together with the JS, we approved a joint code of conduct for joint activities and the meetings of these committees at the summer congress. You can find these here.

The Rules committee will work on writing the Internal Regulations and Statutes of the new political youth organisation. The remit of this committee can be found here. The people who will sit on this committee on behalf of DWARS are Arthur Eveleens, Brenda Vinkenvleugel, Jeppe Bandringa and Marit de Goede.

The Programme Committee will work on writing the programme of principles and political programme of the new political youth organisation. The mission of this committee can be found here. The people who will sit on this committee on behalf of DWARS are Aislinn Hughes, Quinten Coret, Rick Baerends, Noor IJpma, Laurens Pardede and Iris Vergeer.

The Organisational Structure Committee will deal with the organisational structure (departments, committees, working groups, member magazines, Advisory Board, networks and other bodies) of the new political youth organisation. The terms of reference of this committee can be found here. The people who will sit on this committee on behalf of DWARS are Julian Bos, Kiete Schmitt, Max Rietberg and Maren Bootsma.

The Governance Committee will deal with the governance structure (the filling of board positions and division of tasks of the National Board) of the new political youth organisation. The terms of reference of this committee can be found here. The people who will sit on this committee on behalf of DWARS are Daan de Leur, Thijme Hoffmann and Minne van der Mast.

The Association Committee will deal with the association atmosphere (social safety, the association culture and other issues that determine the association atmosphere) of the new political youth organisation. The remit of this committee can be found here. The people who will sit on this committee on behalf of DWARS are Sal van den Berg, Manuela Smit, Jasper van Boven and Farah Bijl.
