Discrimination protesters must stop now!
13 November 2016Yesterday was another day. In Rotterdam, black-piet protesters were violently detained. The activists were evicted from their bus, surroundedeld, and taken away by force.
NIS footage shows a seated protester being beaten in his crotch by a police officer with a truncheon. In addition, anti-Black Pete activist Jerry Afriyie was violently pushed to the ground by police. On Facebook, he says he was taken to a police cell "with chest pains, swollen eye, pain to his head from baton and fist blows and injuries to body and hands".
Afriyie was in the news just a few weeks ago because a judge indicated that he had been unlawfully arrested several times. We are therefore very angry that he has now been forcibly arrested again. It is clear that there are no more incidents here. A whole group of Dutch people are being systematically stripped of their freedom of expression here. There is only one word for this: racism.
When we as DWARS (with mostly white youths) protest, we are never arrested. When anti-black piet protesters take to the streets, they are not only arrested but also dealt with harshly physically. The power of the police is abused to suppress this group.
This violence must stop now. This discrimination must stop now. The right to demonstrate applies to everyone and therefore cannot be denied to any group.
Do you agree that the police use excessive force? Do you also stand for the demonstration rights of all Dutch people? Do you also think this discrimination should be stopped now? Then share our Facebook post!
