Become a board member at DWARS Noord-Holland – Flevoland!

For the board year 2024-2025 DWARS Noord-Holland – Flevoland is looking for a new board! During a board year at the very best chapter of DWARS you get the chance to dedicate yourself for a year to DWARS and your DWARS ideals. It is a super fun experience where you gain a lot of knowledge, skills and experience and meet a lot of new people. Moreover, in the chapter board there is plenty of room for all your cool ideas!

Your term runs from July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2025. A position on the board can be combined with a study or job. As long as you are or want to become a member of DWARS, there are no further requirements (such as how long you have been a member or type of education) for a board position. Experience is not necessary, a good dose of enthusiasm is enough! We therefore strongly encourage anyone who would like to get involved (more) in the association to apply, with all your backgrounds and qualities.

Board members are elected by the General Chapter Meeting (GCM) on Thursday evening, June 20. The motivation of candidates will be forwarded to members in advance. Therefore, send your application no later than June 17. You will then also receive an invitation from the Search Committee for an introductory interview. It is also possible to send your application later or even to apply at the AAV. Please note that your motivation cannot then be taken into account in advance.

Should you be elected, you will be inducted into your position by the rest of the board.

This is what the board of DWARS Noord-Holland – Flevoland is doing…

DWARS Noord-Holland – Flevoland creates a place for DWARSers from Noord-Holland and Flevoland to learn about green, social and inclusive politics in an accessible way. In addition, DWARS Noord-Holland – Flevoland is a meeting place for young people with shared ideals. The Noord-Holland

Flevoland chapter also wants to be a voice for young people in (regional) politics and within GroenLinks. DWARS Noord-Holland – Flevoland does this by organizing substantive and fun activities, participating in actions and demonstrations, and publishing opinion pieces.

As a board member of DWARS Noord-Holland – Flevoland you are responsible, together with the rest of the board, for the ins and outs of the chapter. Two or three times a month you organize a fun substantive activity and there is a monthly social activity such as drinks. During events, board members also ensure a good atmosphere and compliance with the DWARS code of conduct. Once every two weeks there is an open meeting. The chapter board further divides the responsibility for the many (independent) committees of DWARS Noord-Holland – Flevoland. In addition to being present at activities and meetings, each board member also carries out their own board duties. Below you can read more about the various job profiles.

Chair

As chair, you are responsible for the overall coordination of the board, you maintain contact with external organizations, such as GroenLinks chapters, other political youth organizations, and DWARS nationwide, and you are “the face” of the association, both for (new) members and for the media, for example. Within the board you keep the overview, you chair the open meetings and make sure that all board members can perform their duties properly. In addition, from time to time other tasks will arise that will be divided among the board. In total, this board position will take about 10 hours per week.

Secretary

As secretary, you are responsible for the practical and digital running of the department. You take minutes of the meetings, and send the minutes to the so-called minutes spider for distribution to members. You keep the website up to date and write the newsletters. You have access to the membership database, and in it you control memberships for activities, access to the WhatsApp groups and voting rights. With this you are also mainly responsible for the organization of general chapter meetings (organized by the whole board). You are also responsible for the mail addresses and that all privacy-sensitive information is handled properly. Of course, this does not mean that you cannot organize activities. Also, from time to time other tasks will arise that will be divided over the entire board, or to relieve another board member. In total, this board position takes about 10 hours per week.

  • You are comfortable with practical systems.
  • You understand or are willing to learn how programs like Word, email management, WordPress and CRM work.
  • You show initiative and don’t let things take too long.
  • You subscribe to the ideals and values of DWARS, although you do not have to agree with everything verbatim.
  • You have sufficient time in the coming year to dedicate yourself to DWARS Noord-Holland – Flevoland.

Treasurer

As treasurer, you are responsible for the finances of the chapter. You prepare the budget and semi-annual financial reports. You liaise with the Audit Committee for the cash audits and ensure that member claims are paid on time. You also raise the alarm with the national treasurer when something is conspicuous in the chapter finances. Your portfolio also includes managing the storage space at CREA. In total, this board position takes about 6 hours per week.

  • You understand how Excel works, or are willing to learn.
  • You show initiative and don’t let things take too long.

  • You have sufficient time in the coming year to dedicate yourself to DWARS Noord-Holland – Flevoland.

Board Member Politics

As board member Politics you are responsible for the political line of the chapter. You maintain contact with the political group of GroenLinks of Amsterdam and Almere, among others, and attend group meetings. You are responsible for any political campaigns during election time, keeping in touch with the campaign teams of GroenLinks chapters and the national board member Activism & Campaign. In addition, you are the responsible board member for the Local Politics Committee and you are the link between that committee and the board. You will also work with the chairman on going public politically, such as opinion pieces and responses. In total, this board position takes about 6 hours per week.

  • You know the DWARS Political Program (in outline) and subscribe to it, or are willing to learn it.
  • You are interested in local and regional politics on various topics.
  • You are interested in campaigning on behalf of DWARS and together with GroenLinks.
  • You keep up with current events within the area of the chapter and are prepared to respond to them when necessary.
  • You subscribe to the ideals and values of DWARS, although you do not have to agree with everything verbatim.
  • You have sufficient time in the coming year to dedicate yourself to DWARS Noord-Holland – Flevoland.

Board Member Promotion & Member Recruitment

As board member Promotion & Member Recruitment you will mainly be involved in promoting DWARS Noord-Holland – Flevoland and all the cool activities and opportunities the chapter has to offer. Not only will you manage the social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, X), but you will also make sure the chapter has a nice look with images or texts. You will also think about the best ways to reach both members and potential members and any offline promotion, such as by making phone calls. There will also be occasional other tasks that will be divided among the board. In total, this board position will take about 6 hours per week.

This is what we are looking for in you!

  • You know how to use (social) media effectively.
  • You are a flexible worker.
  • You have experience with programs such as Canva (and possibly InDesign or Photoshop) or are willing to learn.
  • You show initiative and take responsibility.
  • You are enthusiastic and you like to get to work.
  • You subscribe to the ideals and values of DWARS, although you do not have to agree with everything verbatim.
  • You have enough time in the next six months to dedicate yourself to DWARS Noord-Holland – Flevoland.

Board Member International

As board member International, your main focus is the internationalization of the chapter and cooperation with other political youth organizations (“family parties”) abroad. This means that you are responsible for making the party accessible to members whose first language is not Dutch and for recruiting these members. Making it accessible includes translating documents, website pages and other texts. In addition, you maintain contact with other family parties, international organizations, interest groups and international politicians. You are also ultimately responsible for the International Committee and organize fun internationally-oriented events with them, and sometimes in cooperation with sister parties or other organizations. There will also be occasional other tasks that will be divided among the board. In total, this board position will take about 4 hours per week.

This is what we are looking for in you!

  • You enjoy establishing contact with other international organizations, politicians and family parties.
  • You possess a reasonable command of the English language.
  • You can look outward from the board with an international outlook.
  • You enjoy translating documents, web pages and other content into English.
  • You find it interesting to think along with the internationalization of some activities.

General board member

There is also always the possibility to apply for the position of general board member. You are then free to fill your position as you see fit. You can fulfill a number of related tasks that are not yet reflected in the other job descriptions. Think of actions and/or campaigns or a more substantive topic, such as diversity. You can also choose not to commit yourself (yet) to a particular set of tasks, but to be flexibly deployable. It is ultimately up to the members at the GCM whether they find your ideas for a position to be of added value to the board.
