Historische wandeling over het vroege socialisme in Amsterdam

Op donderdag 24 april is het zover! Dan krijgen we een historische wandeling door Amsterdam van een deskundige, gespecialiseerd in de geschiedenis van de stad. Tijdens deze wandeling bezoeken we plekken die een belangrijke rol speelden in de vroege socialistische beweging in Amsterdam.

We starten om 18.00 uur bij het standbeeld van Domela Nieuwenhuis, gelegen op de kademuur tussen de Willemsbrug en de Mirakelbrug bij het Nassauplein.

Vanaf ongeveer 1880 groeide de socialistische beweging in Amsterdam snel, onder leiding van de oud-dominee Ferdinand Domela Nieuwenhuis. De stad kende in die tijd veel sociale onrust, met opstanden zoals het Palingoproer van 1886, de spoorwegstaking van 1903 en het Jordaanoproer van 1934.

Tijdens de wandeling op donderdag 24 april bezoeken we deze “lieux de mémoire” en staan we stil bij de sociale (wan)toestanden in Amsterdam rond 1900. Een unieke kans om de geschiedenis van dichtbij te beleven!

Historical walk about early socialism in Amsterdam

On Thursday 24 April, it’s time! We will be given a historical walk through Amsterdam by an expert, specialized in the history of the city. During this walk, we will visit places that played an important role in the early socialist movement in Amsterdam.

We will start at 18:00 at the statue of Domela Nieuwenhuis, located on the quay wall between the Willemsbrug and the Mirakelbrug at the Nassauplein.

From around 1880, the socialist movement in Amsterdam grew rapidly, led by the former minister Ferdinand Domela Nieuwenhuis. The city experienced a lot of social unrest at that time, with uprisings such as the Palingoproer of 1886, the railway strike of 1903 and the Jordaanoproer of 1934.

During the walk on Thursday 24 Aprilwe visit these “lieux de mémoire” and reflect on the social (mis)conditions in Amsterdam around 1900. A unique opportunity to experience history up close!
