Op 15 maart is het weer zover, we gaan weer stemmen. Dit jaar gaan we de leden van de  provinciale staten verkiezen. Dit is een belangrijke tijd, niet alleen voor onze moederpartij GroenLinks, maar ook voor ons, DWARS.

Als DWARS gaan we campagne voeren voor GroenLinks, later hierover meer. Het is voor ons super belangrijk dat GroenLinks zo groot mogelijk wordt. Daarnaast is het belangrijk om niet alleen voor GroenLinks campagne te voeren maar ook voor onze eigen waarden. Het is daarom dat we ook onze eigen campagne gaan voeren met ons eigen campagne materiaal. Met dit gaan we proberen om zoveel mogelijk jonge mensen de staten in te krijgen.
Maar wat doen de provinciale staten nou eigenlijk? De provinciale staten zijn belangrijk voor twee dingen: ze zijn de verbinding tussen het rijk en de gemeenten, en de statenleden verkiezen de leden van de eerste kamer. Het is hierom dus ook dat juist deze verkiezingen zo belangrijk zijn. Het zorgt er voor dat we Den Haag duurzamer, eerlijker en inclusiever kunnen maken, en daarnaast dingen zoals het openbaar vervoer en natuur kunnen verbeteren in de provincie.

Wat gaan we als DWARS doen?

We gaan de straten op om ons te laten horen en te laten zien. We gaan flyeren en misschien zelfs nog huis aan huizen. We zullen dit gaan doen op drie plekken: Almere, Haarlem en Amsterdam. Daarnaast heeft de landelijke tak van DWARS nog drie thema avonden georganiseerd. Deze zullen gaan over de drie politieke speerpunten van DWARS: het basisbestaan, klimaatrechtvaardigheid en gelijkwaardigheid.

Fighting For Your Sustainable, Equitable and Inclusive Future

On March 15th we will once again be going to the ballot boxes, this time around we will be voting for the provinces, important because they elect the upper house. This is an important time, not only for our mother party GroenLinks, but also for us, DWARS.

GroenLinks is our motherparty. Because of that we, as DWARS, will be campaigning on their behalf. More info on this later, as it’s in our best interest for GroenLinks to become as big as possible. However it’s important to also campaign for our own beliefs. Because of this we are doing our own campaign theirs, with our own material and beliefs. By doing this we aim to elect as many young people as possible into the provinces.
But what on earth those people actually do after being elected into the provinces, you may think. The provinces are important for two things: being the bridge between the national government and municipalities, and electing the members of the upper house. Because of these important factors, these elections are crucial to compel the national government in The Hague to work alongside the local authorities for a more  sustainable, equitable and inclusive future. This includes improving public transport and nature facilities. which are policy areas the provinces have a big say in.

What are we going to do as DWARS?

As DWARS we will take to the streets to be heard and seen. We will be handing out flyers and going door-to-door. We will do this in three places: Almere, Haarlem and Amsterdam. Besides this, DWARS at the national level is organising three theme nights for the national campaign. These are respectively about sustainability, equitability and inclusivity. These follow our main political ideologies of 1) combatting climate change through and chasing intersectional climate justice, of 2) making sure everyone is ensured a life in which they have guarantees and fallback options where the rich care for the poor instead of extorting them and of 3) everyone being able to live according to who they are. Where people don’t have to be scared about how people will treat them based on anything ranging from gender & sexuality to religious & political beliefs and everything in between and far beyond.
