Letter to the Mayor

Last Friday, Extinction Rebellion (XR) held a non-violent demonstration in Utrecht. This was quite brutally interrupted by the police, who arrested more than 100 participants in the demonstration. Because of these arrests and how the police acted, DWARS Utrecht together with the Utrecht chapters of Rood (SP), Jonge Socialisten (PvDA) and P!NK (PvdD) wrote a letter to the new mayor, Sharon Dijksma. We disagree with how the police were deployed during the demonstration and how the police handled the arrested protesters. We therefore call on mayor Sharon Dijksma to handle demonstrations differently in the future.
