10 questions to ask your (Valentine's) date

08 February 2020

There is a convivial atmosphere at the DWARS evening dedicated to spring fever. Members can show their best side tonight during an evening of speed dating. There will be no awkward silences, because on the tables are cards with questions you can ask each other. We would like to share the following ten questions (and some nice answers from DWARSers) with you, so that you too can get through your date with plenty to talk about:

  1. What item of clothing will people never see you wearing?

To start with, just a light-hearted question. A nice cow-and-calf topic. A DWARSer replies that he would not wear a monochrome jogging suit. There is laughter. The ice is broken.

  1. What is the perfect marriage proposal?

A useful question, because this way you can immediately find out whether you have the same idea about marriage. Besides, you know exactly what the other person likes, so should the date now be so successful that you stay together forever, you already know exactly what your partner's ideal proposal looks like! Super handy. On the DWARS evening, many a member says, "don't". Silly.

  1. What can you wake you up for?

This question still seems rather superficial, but during the DWARS evening it turns out that the answer can be more revealing than you might think. For instance, there are DWARSers who can be woken up for chocolate, but also DWARSers who indicate that they prefer not to be woken up for anything. Several times "sex" is given as an answer. Thus, the tension slowly builds.

  1. Who is your celebrity crush?

Dreaming is always allowed right? It's fun to exchange your crushes and it offers insight into what the other person is like. By the way, my celebrity crush is Emma Watson. I have tried several times to send her a casual message, but it usually ended in a marriage proposal anyway.

  1. What did you want to be before?

It is extraordinary how faces change when this question is asked. As if you get a glimpse of what they were like as a child. DWARSers give a variety of answers; from cartoonist to prime minister.

  1. What makes you cranky?

If you want to get to know your date well, you should ask this question. The open-mindedness of question five is then likely to turn immediately. DWARSers like to let people know what they disagree with. Short-sighted messages on Facebook, for example, but also something as simple as a compulsory family dinner.

  1. What would you like to change about yourself?

This is a fun question to ask your date. It says a lot about a person how they respond to it. During speed dating, for instance, we notice that there are people who would not want to change anything about themselves and people who immediately mention characteristics of themselves that they would like to do something about. One DWARSer says he would like to have six arms. That seems efficient to him.

  1. Who would get to play you in a film about your life?

I immediately respond with Emma Watson, see also my answer to question number four. Thinking to be rid of it this way, my speed date comes up with a follow-up question: "what tip would you give her to play the role as convincingly as possible?" This unexpected twist forces me to really show myself for a moment. I would definitely recommend it for a first date.

  1. If you were an animal, what kind of animal would you be?

Note that this is not about what kind of animal life you yourself would like best. Which animal suits your personality? If you have been dating someone for a while, you can also answer the question for each other. A DWARSer says he thinks I look a bit like a chameleon. I find that a bit confrontational. In turn, I label a DWARSer an otter.

  1. What do you find attractive about people?

It might be a bold question to ask on a date, because if it turns out that you do not meet this at all, it might spoil the evening a bit. Still, it is also useful to know, so you are not wasting each other's time. DWARSers answer diversely, but go more into character traits than looks. Confidence, enthusiasm and being open-minded are mentioned as answers.

The evening was successful. Tonight was not romantic dates, but rather the DWARSers just got to know each other a little better. Moreover, everyone got enough inspiration again to fill up evenings. In a week's time, it will be Valentine's Day! If you have a nice date then too, you're all set now. Have fun.
