DWARS Groningen proud of youngest councillor Bas de Boer
28 March 2019GRONINGEN - Today, the new members of the Groningen provincial executive were installed. One of them is Bas de Boer. In addition to being a member of the States, he is also a board member of DWARS Groningen. DWARS Groningen is proud and extremely happy that the young sound will also be represented at provincial level by De Boer.
Chairman Bram Tánczos explains why it is so important to have young people on the provincial executive: "As a young person, you see things in a different perspective. Such a view on issues that have been around for a long time is refreshing, you come to new insights." Vice-chairman Elte Hillekens is also happy with De Boer's appointment as a member of the provincial executive: "He has always enjoyed working for the association and I am sure he will represent our voice in the Provincial Council with the same energy."
De Boer feels honoured about his newly-acquired position: "I find it very special that I am now the youngest member of the Provincial Council of Groningen. I hope to be able to demonstrate over the next four years that young people can make a difference." He explains why it is so important to him that the young sound is represented: "Groningen is a province with a lot of social problems. Because of the earthquakes and generational poverty, there are fewer and fewer opportunities, especially for young people. People are moving away, even though they would love to stay here. By focusing on sustainable energy, increasing the liveability in village centres, and ensuring that all corners of the province are accessible, I think everyone growing up in Groningen will have the opportunities for a better future."
