GroenLinkse young people: 'Invest 3 billion in green power instead of tax cut'
27 October 2015Today, consumer and environmental organisations publish the annual ranking of renewable energy companies. The report shows that the Netherlands is not greening, but ageing. DWARS, the young people of GroenLinks, are calling on the government to move quickly on renewable power. "While achieving the energy agreement seems further and further away, the climate summit is getting closer. The Netherlands must also do its bit internationally. So it is urgent time for additional measures," said chairman Lyle Muns.
Specifically, DWARS wants to reduce the planned tax cut from €5 billion to €2 billion. The released 3 billion can then be used, among other things, for cooperatives of low-income families. These energy cooperatives can invest that in energy saving and green power. "That way you catch two birds with one stone. Lower energy bills for vulnerable families and more money for renewable energy," Muns informed.
Finally, DWARS thinks the tax system should be greened quickly. Indeed, the ranking shows that energy companies are ageing due to the falling price of coal. Muns: "The health and environmental impact of coal is huge. That comes with a price tag. With that money, we will ensure that we really fulfil the agreements of the energy agreement." At its congress last month, the GroenLinkse youth adopted a new energy vision. More actions are planned in the run-up to the Paris climate summit.
