Vote in the European elections!

18 May 2019

The European elections are coming up! Maybe you think the European Union is great: travel without worries, free internet in Europe. Maybe you like the European Union a little less: companies have a lot of influence, and maybe you think of Article 13, a curtailment of the free internet. We like the European Union, but think some things could change: let's really tackle the climate crisis, let's make sure everyone pays fair taxes. Let's make sure refugees get a good deal and everyone can live in freedom.

Currently, the average age of the European Parliament is 54. That is too high! So there are mostly old people in the European Parliament, and you can tell. It is time for a different voice, and we can make that voice heard. With our young candidates Eline van Nistelrooij and Kim van Sparrentak, young people can be truly represented in the European Parliament. Vote young!

ELINE VAN NISTELROOIJ - GREEN LEFT #3

"I am Eline van Nistelrooij, 29 years old and a candidate MEP for GroenLinks in seat 3. I want to work in Brussels for a free, fair and clean Europe. A free Europe, where everyone can be themselves and diversity is valued, where refugees are welcome and we stand for our democracy and rule of law. A fair Europe, where companies pay taxes fairly and young people are paid for work. And a clean Europe, where we really tackle climate change and opt for fair and sustainable trade, with respect for human rights. Make your voice heard and make a difference in Europe. Vote green on 23 May, vote young!"

KIM VAN SPARRENTAK - GREENLEFT #7

"For ten years I have been active in the environmental and climate movement. The biggest challenge of our time, we can only solve it in Europe. But that climate policy, must not only ensure that we stay under one and a half degrees of warming, it must also be fair and social. I want an energy democracy. A more democratic European energy policy that benefits communities rather than the big multinationals. I want a welcoming Europe. A Europe where you can feel welcome, regardless of your place of birth, gender, or who you fall in love with. And I want to fight for youth rights. For fair pay for work, so no more unpaid and poorly paid internships, and a forward-looking Europe."
