Time for a durable engine block
15 May 2017This week it became painfully clear that reaching a sustainable coalition in the short term is not a given. The CDA is stuck in the past and will not budge a millimetre to secure the future of our country. In the AD, CDA member Herman Wijffels cracked Buma's stance in the formation. According to Wijffels, his party leader's vision can be simply summarised as a "no" to every green measure.
Whereas for the party's supporters, stewardship is one of the important pillars, Buma seems to oppose all measures aimed at a fair price on resource use. Wijffels even compares his party leader's attitude in the interview to that of Donald Trump: "That man doesn't know anything about anything".
The CDJA, the CDA's youth organisation, has also been taking an unwavering stance for months. Whereas we as DWARS, the Young Democrats and even the JOVD look for compromises on sustainability, the CDJA repeats the mantra "The market must solve the problem" over and over again. An unworkable attitude in a coalition country like the Netherlands.
So the CDA will have to step up more than a notch if they want the formation to succeed. That is why we as DWARS say: it is time for a new 'sustainable engine block'. An engine block of VVD, D66 and GroenLinks that wants to think about the future of our country. Together good for 66 seats and a large majority if, for example, the Labour Party and Christenunie join to form a coalition. What about the CDA? They may join as soon as they want to work on the future of our country again!
