DWARS in the GroenLinks programme

28 January 2023

The election programme of GroenLinks Utrecht is known. DWARS Utrecht also did its bit for the programme. Not only in making the programme by providing feedback to the programme committee, but also by submitting amendment proposals to the election programme at the Provincial Assembly.

DWARS Utrecht submitted no less than 33 amendment proposals there, and we are happy to share that many of our proposals were adopted. We have thus strengthened the voice of young people at GroenLinks. Because of DWARS Utrecht, GroenLinks's election manifesto now states that the province:

  • Setting a generation key
  • Integrity rules reviewed
  • Appoint a Provincial Ombudsman together with an integrity hotline
  • Gives full compensation for internships
  • Making permanent employment contracts the norm
  • Creating sufficient student and starter homes
  • Encouraging flow in the housing market
  • Extra investment in culture in education
  • A provincial art award makes

DWARS Utrecht also cooperated with the Inclusion and Diversity Working Group of GroenLinks Utrecht. Together with them, we also submitted amendments, many of which were also adopted. As a result, the programme now states that the province:

  • Internship discrimination actively combats
  • Recognises and protects intangible heritage such as Keti Koti
  • Addressing institutional racism structurally
  • Must reflect its residents and set quotas for that purpose
  • Investigates its role in slavery's past, how it carries over into the present, and apologises for that role

In addition, the list of candidates for the Provincial Council elections has also been officially decided. And good news: there are three DWARSers on the list! At spot 6 is Julia Matser, former president of DWARS. In addition, Gijs Broere, the current chairman of DWARS Utrecht, is on spot 15. Also in place 16 is Imraan El Hamdaoui, the current treasurer of DWARS Utrecht. We are super happy with this result, because it is important that the DWARSe sound is also heard in the province!

In the coming period, we will be working on the campaign for the Provincial Council elections. Would you like to help? Then send an e-mail to campagne.utrecht@dwars.org.

The election program of GroenLinks Utrecht has been announced. DWARS Utrecht has also contributed to the program, not only by providing feedback to the programme committee in its creation, but also by submitting proposed amendments to the Provincial Members' Meeting on the election program.

DWARS Utrecht submitted no fewer than 33 proposed amendments, and we are happy to share that many of our proposals were accepted. We have thus anchored the voice of young people more strongly within GroenLinks. Thanks to DWARS Utrecht, the election program of GroenLinks now includes the following provisions for the province:

  • Establishing a generational assessment
  • Revising integrity rules
  • Appointing a Provincial Ombudsman together with an integrity issues reporting centre
  • Providing full compensation for internships
  • Making permanent employment contracts the norm
  • Creating sufficient student and starter housing
  • Promoting flow in the housing market
  • Investing extra in culture in education
  • Establishing a provincial art prize

DWARS Utrecht also worked with the Inclusion and Diversity working group of GroenLinks Utrecht. We submitted amendments together, many of which were also accepted. As a result, the program now includes provisions for the province to:

  • Actively combat discrimination in internships
  • Recognize and protect intangible heritage such as Keti Koti
  • Systematically address institutional racism
  • Represent its inhabitants and set quotas accordingly
  • Conduct research into its role in the history of slavery, how this continues to impact the present, and offer apologies for that role.

In addition, the candidate list for the Provincial Council elections has also been officially established. And good news: three DWARS members are on the list! Julia Matser, former chairman of DWARS, is in 6th place. Gijs Broere, the current chairman of DWARS Utrecht, is in 15th place, and Imraan El Hamdaoui, the current treasurer of DWARS Utrecht, is in 16th place. We are extremely happy with this result, because it is important that the DWARS voice is also heard in the province!
