DWARSers for the Council: Ahmet Kargin from Delft
31 January 2018DWARS Leiden-Haaglanden thinks it is important to get young people into the city council. That is why we want to interview all DWARSe candidate councillors so that you can get to know them better! Today we interview Gjalt Annega, number 19 on the candidate list in Delft.
Briefly introduce yourself
Why did you decide to run yourself for the municipal council?
I would like to contribute more to our society and live in a more sustainable and fairer city. I think the best way to achieve that is to be as active locally as possible. The best way to do that is through the council.
Do you have concrete plans for your municipality should you get on the council?
Yes, definitely. I myself have lots of plans to make Delft an even more beautiful city.
Because Delft is a student city with mainly technical schools, I would like to create a cooperation between (technical) students and the municipality. So that we can make Delft more sustainable through new and innovative ideas, for example.
I myself have a foreign background which makes it very easy for me, but especially for the relevant groups, to have better communication with people from Delft who have a foreign background. In this way, together we can ensure that Delft becomes more inclusive by addressing various problems and issues such as discrimination or radicalisation.
Why should we vote for you?
I think it is especially important to have young people on the council. Because often decisions are made about how and what we will do in the city later. And it is precisely the young people who will especially live with that. By having as many young people on the council as possible, together we can make sure that not only are they taken into accountabout our future but also with our future.
Why do you think it is important to have young people on the council?
What is your favourite one-liner?
Change is the law of life. And those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future.
