DWARSers for the Council: Timo Töns from Delft

11 January 2018

DWARS Leiden-Haaglanden thinks it is important to get young people into the city council. That is why we want to interview all DWARSe candidate councillors so that you can get to know them better! Today we interview Timo Töns, number 6 on the candidate list in Delft

Briefly introduce yourself

I am Timo, 24 years old, studying Civil Engineering at TU Delft. Besides my studies, I have been active in student life for the past few years. Before that, I have also lived in Delft all my life, which is why I have a tremendous bond with the city of Delft.

Why did you decide to run yourself for the municipal council?

A little over a year ago, I decided to register with GroenLinks to get involved with the party. I have always been interested in politics, so when I saw a call for students to put themselves forward as candidates, choice was easily made.

Do you have concrete plans for your municipality should you get on the council?

From my studies, I have dealt a lot with designing modern infrastructure and mobility mainly around cyclists. It seems very interesting to apply this knowledge in the council.

Why should we vote for you?

It is important to have a good reflection of the population. In Delft, there are many young people and students and I would like to represent them. Besides, I was born and raised in Delft, so I know the city like the back of my hand. That love for the city is also what motivates me most.

Why do you think it is important to have young people on the council?

I believe the council should reflect society. That includes young people just as much. Especially in Delft, you have even more young people living there because of the large number of students. I would like to give a voice to this group within GroenLinks.

What is your favourite one-liner?

A day without laughter is a day not lived. I enter the campaign with great enthusiasm and pleasure!
