Youth porn action Plasterk reacts shocked by secret bill

29 April 2016

DWARS, the youth organisation of GroenLinks, reacts with shock to the intelligence and security services bill published by the Volkskrant this morning. Last week, the youths posted a banner of the interior minister on Pornhub with the text 'Plasterk is watching you'. More than 1.7 million porn surfers saw the banner. "This is even worse than we expected. All Plasterk's salutary words notwithstanding, the leaked bill shows that the government is approving a massive invasion of the privacy of innocent citizens," chairman Lyle Muns informed.

The leaked bill would have major implications on citizens' privacy protection. For instance, security agencies will be given the ability to hack into computers of citizens who are not suspected of anything. This is to gain access to servers that may also be used by terrorists. "Not only we find the hacking of ordinary citizens unacceptable, as does the cabinet in their own evaluation study on privacy. It is incomprehensible that a Labour Party minister ignores these objections," Muns explained.

DWARS has an even bigger objection to the large 'access sites' that the government wants to tap. "Such a tap gives the security services access to huge amounts of metadata. That sounds innocuous but if the AIVD can see who you have been messaging with where and when, that already says a lot about who you are and what you do," Muns concludes.

The youth organisation calls on the State Council not to disregard the privacy concerns of thousands of organisations and individuals. People can submit their petition sign against the law. In no time, it already got nearly 1,000 signatures.
