Iris on Nieuwsuur in item 'Who still wants to go into politics?'

01 June 2023

Wilders (PVV) walking around heavily secured, Kaag (D66) being threatened at her door with burning torches. Politicians have been facing a lot of aggression lately. Political youth organisations are also facing these threats.

Last week, the College Tour programme aired how the daughters vaan Kaag hoped their mother would quit her job because they fear for her safety. This led to a conversation: if the aggression towards politicians increases so much, does this make people not want to go into politics anymore? And will this then become a problem for politicians in the future?

Nieuwsuur made an item about it and spoke to Michiel, president of the JOVD, and also our president, Iris, for this purpose. She too faced online threats after her speech at the GroenLinks congress was taken out of context and misquoted.
