GroenLinkseuveniles argue for sex toys in basic package
01 April 2021DWARS, GroenLinkse Youth, advocates including sex toys in the basic package. "Stress among young people is constantly increasing," notes president Sabine Scharwachter, "which is why the government should help young people relax."
Relaxed society
Earlier, the young people advocated for the inclusion of contraception and menstrual products in the basic package, to which sex toys are now being added. "DWARS stands for a relaxed society, sex toys can play a big role in that," Sabine Scharwachter said.
Closing the orgasm gap
Sex toys in the basic package are not just a measure against stress among young people. DWARS also thinks the orgasm gap should be closed. "By this we mean that men orgasm more often during sex than women*. Sex toys can help empower women sexually" notes the DWARS president.
Sex is fun! Shall we talk about it?
There is also a taboo on sex toys, according to the youth section of GroenLinks, although they are used by many people and can be a valuable addition to people's sex lives.
This is not the first time DWARS has exposed sexual taboos. Back in 2013, they came up with the campaign "Sex is fun! Shall we talk about it?" with which they wanted to draw attention to the taboo surrounding sex. That sex is something you do for fun is never discussed in schools. Meanwhile, sex education is being cut back hard.
Seeing plan fall apart
In recent days, however, a practical problem has developed. The stalled ship in the Suez Canal contains, among other things, a large stash of dildos. Scharwachter: "This may make our plan unfeasible in the short term, but in the meantime, the caretaker government is making sure young people are sufficiently screwed."
