1 April: DWARS continues under name 'SAMEN'

With the recent political shifts, DWARS, GroenLinkse Youth, is forced to change its name. GroenLinks will most likely be working with the coalition on various issues in the near future, as it has lost its majority in the Senate. The board feels that the name DWARS no longer suits the attitude of its parent party. Therefore, the youth party has decided to continue as "SAMEN" with immediate effect.

The current name of the youth organisation, according to its president, Julia Matser, does not show enough that DWARS is also itself willing to cooperate with other political youth organisations. "DWARS for cooperation sounds like a contradiction. While DWARS actually recognises that we can achieve more together, we can jointly encourage young people to vote, for example."

The youth let it be known that after the past congress of GroenLinks, they no longer feel compelled to maintain their DWARSe stance towards GroenLinks. "The motion to start party-wide discussion on the loan system has been passed and thus the goal of acting as a louse in the fur no longer matters," Matser explained.

The choice was bolstered by mounting confusion over DWARS's identity. Increasingly, the political party was associated with the hotdog bar of the same name in Tilburg. The youth organisation regularly received calls asking about delivery times and vegan options. With the new name, the organisation hopes to avoid this confusion in the future.

On Wednesday, the new-style website will be on display.
