DWARS and Young Socialists present ballot agreement

The Young Socialists (PvdA) and DWARS (GroenLinks), have come to an agreement: the PvdA and GroenLinks should work together towards the 2021 parliamentary elections. To achieve this, they are today presenting the ballot agreement Plan'21. If it is up to the youth parties, the parties will also pull together in a possible formation. Wouter, chairman of DWARS: "The PvdA and GroenLinks have their own election programme, but with this ballot agreement we are showing that these parties can easily rally behind the same views. If you go into the race with the same plans during the formation, you will come out stronger together." 

Young people would like the Netherlands to recover from the corona crisis in a sustainable way. Social policy, they say, should be the basis of that recovery. In the ballot agreement, the young people present shared positions calling on their parent parties to form a left front towards the elections. They explain that the parties should merge their social and sustainable sides to tackle the major problems of our time. Luna Koops, president of the Young Socialists: "The climate crisis and economic inequality must be tackled together, with an equal future for all." In Plan'21, the young people stress the importance of a social and ambitious energy transition, sufficient public housing and fair student loans.

According to the Young Socialists and DWARS, cooperation is also needed after the elections in a possible formation. By acting together, the left parties can exercise more control at the negotiation table. The youth organisations therefore call on their parent parties to stick together and only join the negotiations together. By joining forces and forming one block together during the formation, the parties can make important steps in their sustainable and social struggle, the youths say. Ubbink: "It would be nice if the substantive points from our ballot agreement are included in this."
