The Netherlands is in housing crisis. In recent years, under all the Rutte cabinets, house prices have gone through the roof. A house that used to cost two tonnes is now easily four and a half tonnes, and if you want to rent or look for a student room you often end up in a small room with a ridiculous price. Especially at the bottom end of the housing market, the shortage is severe: the number of homeless people has more than doubled in the past 10 years, the supply of social housing continues to shrink and the government is not investing enough in public housing. Under minister Stef Blok, private investors were made as attractive as possible to invest in the Netherlands, with the end result being less available housing in the Netherlands and ridiculous house prices. That is why, as the Housing Committee, we are looking into the housing problems and their possible solution.
