Young people on the list in Utrecht (and lots of them!)

05 November 2025

A while ago is the list from GroenLinks-PvdA Utrecht for the municipal elections of 2026 published. It is a long list with 40 candidate councillors. As DWARS Utrecht, we are extremely proud to see so many DWARSers and young people on the list A very large proportion of candidate councillors are young and we are pleased to see that
see. We believe that with this list, the youth vote can be nicely represented become. All in all, the list is nicely diverse, with people of different ages,
backgrounds and areas of expertise.Β

Indeed, the list does not just include young people, as well as active DWARSers. For instance, our own board member David is on spot 31. Iris, former president of DWARS, is in spot 19 and Saban is in spot #35. Our friends at JS Utrecht also have a number of candidates on the list stand. For example, their department board members Mehrzad (spot 40) and Baukje (spot 27).

Youth vote up

The order of the list can still be voted on this week. Retrieved from Instagram we have shared a post with how to do so and who we would like to see voted for en masse. After this member referendum, the campaign will start and of course we are looking at that out to. We will again have a good time all going round the houses, flyering and who knows, set up some more playful actions. Tot that time we wait quietly and obviously hope for a nice and even younger final list.

Roadmap:

  • Are you a member of GroenLinks Utrecht?
  • Look in your mailbox for the email called β€œCast your vote!”
  • Drag your favourite young candidates all the way to the top! (So give a push to your own preferred candidates, other people will do the same).

Who do I give a push? Some suggestions:

  • Iris Vergeer (25), former board member of DWARS nationwide, active DWARSer, committed to Youth Care among others (spot #19)
  • David Eijsackers (25), current ward board member politics at DWARS Utrecht, chairman of the GL Utrecht working group Work and Income (spot #31)
  • Saban Caliskan, DWARSer, active in university politics at VUUR, and very involved livability of the Uithof (spot #35)
  • Baukje Harmsma (27), active DWARSer, ward board member politics at the JS Utrecht, puts her strong idealistic compass to good use (spot #27)
  • Jelmer Becker (24), inspired vice-president at FNV Young & United, former board member JOB-MBO, young GLer, dedicates himself to MBOers and professionals (spot #11), among others
  • Mehrzad Joussefi (18), JS Utrecht ward councillor for 2 years, public administration student, wants to bring young people, students and minorities closer to political governance (spot #40)

Furthermore, we would also like to give a shout-out to the other young candidates (in the DWARSe definition up to 28 years of age) who we may not know as well but who are already making a tremendous effort in Utrecht politics: Mahaar Fattal (27, spot #2), Titus Stam (26, spot #13), Romi Leever (22, spot #16), Joachim Cornielje (28, spot #20), Ray Polman (25, spot #18), Aziz Kawak (27, spot #30).

PS: We suspect we are missing some people here, do you know who this includes? Then send an email to secretaris.utrecht@dwars.org.
