The Utrecht provincial council group of GroenLinks has launched the campaign #Tick Back launched. Every time a motion in the Provincial Council ‘ticks’ status holders, the councillors of the GroenLinks group donate to a charity. The first donations are in response to two JA21 motions, and will go to Refugee Council Netherlands.

We support this action. DWARS Utrecht and the individual board members also donate to Vluchtelingenwerk Nederland.

Blaming failing housing policy on statusholders
Like many right-wing parties, JA21 is trying to shift the consequences of housing policies in which the social rental sector is being slashed onto status holders. These people fled their countries due to war, oppression or violence and are blamed for right-wing policies here. Motions like these constantly portray status holders as a burden, when there should be room for hospitality.

Hospitality
The province of Utrecht is a hospitable province where people are not excluded. Housing is a fundamental right, and the government must ensure a place for everyone. Social rented housing is an essential part of this, which is why social renting will have to be vigorously pursued in the coming period.

Donate to Refugee Council Netherlands
Vluchtelingenwerk Nederland is an organisation that provides refugees with emotional and legal support, and helps with other things involved in immigration such as finding a job. It also organises events especially for refugees, such as children's holiday weeks at asylum seekers' centres. Nearly 15 thousand volunteers help refugees build a new future this way.
