DWARS through Overijssel: Hardenberg

19 August 2019

What makes Hardenberg so beautiful?

In itself, a good question and as a councillor, I obviously like a lot of things. Like our new hospital under construction, but I understand that you don't come to Hardenberg for a day for that.

What we do have is a wonderful theatre. As a rural municipality, I am proud of the fact that we have a beautiful theatre so that culture also has a place in Hardenberg. So do come and visit a performance. But the reason we attract so many tourists is because of our surroundings. We have beautiful woods around the Oldemeijer, lovely footpaths along the Vecht and for the sporty ones, great mountain bike trails through the woods of the Oldemeijer. I believe a certain GroenLinks Statesman visited those trails as once.

On the municipal border with Ommen is also the Ommerschans. An area nominated as a World Heritage Site. And on the other side of the municipality, from Kloosterhaar, you have the Engbertdijksvenen. This is a unique piece of nature where you can also take lovely walks.

Then I must also mention Gramsbergen. A small town in the north of our municipality with a beautiful old town centre. Volunteers from the museum are happy to show you around and can tell you all sorts of things about its history. Gramsbergen also has a highly regarded beer brewery, with a tasting room. It is located near the railway station....

Of course, you can also have a coffee in Hardenberg's market or lunch overlooking De Vecht. And while you're there you can also take a look at the town hall with your own eyes.
