Column: GroenLinks and young people

Whether you get to vote for the first time or have had the opportunity to vote before: voting is important for every young person. After all, the municipal council decides about your school, your neighbourhood and the cycle paths in your municipality. Many young people do not vote in municipal elections, and this is a great pity. After all, young people make different choices from adults, and the parties that represent these choices now often have less say in the municipality.
GroenLinks is one such party that is really there for young people. They stand up for good education, good cycle paths and a nice neighbourhood. GroenLinks also likes to hear from young people, either directly or through DWARS, its youth organisation. So if you have a good idea, send an email to the councillors in Kampen or to Dwars Overijssel and we will get to work on it!
When I sent an e-mail to my local GroenLinks chapter a year and a half ago with no political experience whatsoever that I did want to do something for GroenLinks, I was welcomed with open arms and could immediately start working for the national campaign as vice-campaign leader. Barely six months after those verkeizingen, I work as campaign leader for the whole of Overijssel. Indeed, at GroenLinks they look at what you can do and not where you come from or how old you are. The perfect party for young people to belong to!
And what can you do as a young person yourself?
You can go and vote! (Preferably on GroenLinks of course, but do a vote guide and vote for the party that suits you). By sending emails to councillors when you find something. Make yourself heard! Join the youth council, where you and other young people can make the voice of Kampen's youth heard. Join a political youth organisation such as DWARS.
Greetings,
Lucas
Chairman DWARS Overijssel
