Sustainable banking
For English, go to Sustainable banking.
Did you know that the Netherlands' biggest banks spend a large part of your money on polluting and dishonest practices? The Action Committee thinks this should change. That is why they have figured out for you where you can spend your money in a sustainable and ethical way. Among others, they used the Fair Money Guide to find out how banks score on various themes such as gender equality, human rights, animal welfare and climate change. The only bank scoring 8 or higher on each theme is Volksbank, which includes ASN Bank, Regiobank and SNS Bank.
The following organisations have joined the action:
- Young Democrats Amsterdam
- Young Socialists Amsterdam
- PINK! North Holland
- DWARS Amsterdam
- DWARS Groningen
- DWARS Rotterdam-Rijnmond
- DWARS Utrecht
To help you switch, the Action Committee has created a switching guide. You can find it below, by clicking on the image. Have fun with sustainable banking!
Have you switched and want to share why or do you want to switch but still have questions? Then send us your story or question via Instagram.

“I was shocked at how badly my own bank came out with its misleading green logo (ABN Amro). I just switched to ASN with a simple push of a button.” - Roos Boerstoel
“When I found out that you can make a huge positive difference with something you have to do almost nothing yourself, I was immediately convinced: sustainable banking is the way to go!” - Anna van der Heijden
“It has been at least a good eight years since I switched from ING to ASN. This bank came out as the best on all fronts in the bank comparator back then, it still is today.
We humans choose where our money goes every day by what we consume but meanwhile banks are investing our bank account money nicely in unethical and earth-exploiting practices. I hope everyone switches as soon as possible after hearing this.” - Margo Mustert
“I don't think many people realise what kind of unsustainable practices their bank is engaged in, which is logical, because banks are not going to shout from the rooftops that they invest in arms trade or cooperate in money laundering. Fortunately, the Fair Bank Guide provides good insight into the areas in which each Dutch bank does or does not score well. The picture is clear: Only Volksbank (ASN, Regiobank and SNS) scores satisfactory in all areas. So that is the most sustainable destination for your savings.” - Koen Donatz
“After being informed about the environmentally harmful practices of ING - my then bank - and then seeing how things could also be done at banks like ASN, I decided to switch. This has been several years now, but I am still satisfied. Especially now that ASN offers the same services as other banks: payment requests and money directly to the recipient, for example.” - Déwi Hopman
“I had actually been with Rabobank since I was eight because they had foisted a children's account on me with the promise of a piggy bank. Never changed. Then I got woke and wanted to switch. Took some googling and reading up but luckily the ASN switching service is there. I can recommend it to everyone, it makes more of an impact than you think.” - Pieter van Rossum
