The CuCo Introduces: Alessandro Nendissa

26 May 2023

This is the fourth part of a series of proposal pieces on the members of the Culture Committee (CuCo). This time Alessandro Nendissa!

Name - City - Age - Daily activities?

Hi, I am Sandro, a 26-year-old student and almost graduated. I lived in Amsterdam for 5 years. First in Zuidoost and later in Nieuw-West, but you can now find me temporarily in beautiful Almere.

I myself am of Dutch, Italian and Moluccan descent, and I am particularly engrossed in my Moluccan history. Currently, I am also graduating on that subject.

How and when did you join DWARS? What ideals or issues are important to you?

I joined DWARS last summer because current affairs and politics interest me. For a long time, I had been looking for a place where I could do something with that and back in 2019, I knew I wanted to join a political youth organisation. Unfortunately, a few months later, the corona virus threw a spanner in the works. I felt nothing with just online meetings. So I waited out the social restrictions so that I could just attend an offline meet-up.

For me, social and financial inequality is the most important political issue. With an emphasis on racism and poverty. But in addition, I find climate, (online) privacy and combating serious crime of great importance.

What appeals to you about the Culture Commission?

The way you arrange it. You can go in all directions with it. It is possible to focus on social culture but also on artistic culture. Culture actually affects everything.

What is one culture thing you have ever done / can recommend?

No Netflix, Videoland, Amazon Prime or HBO Max. You can never play out the NPO Start app. There are endless series, docuseries and programmes on it. Although I must confess that I do sin occasionally and still have an account on almost all the aforementioned streaming services....

What are you looking forward to doing with the Culture Commission?

I enjoy organising and preparing for a cultural event the most.

What else should people know? / Anything else you want to say about yourself?

I wish I had joined DWARS earlier.
