The CuCo introduces: Tijn Zeeman
23 April 2023This is the third part of a series of proposal pieces on the members of the Culture Committee (CuCo). This time Tijn Zeeman!

Name - City - Age - Daily activities?
My name is Tijn Zeeman and I am 21 years old. After living in Utrecht for a year, I now live with my parents in Hilversum again. I am doing a bachelor's degree in law, but I am currently having a gap year before completing the final year. During this year, I do voluntary work and have also joined the CuCo of DWARS Amsterdam.
How and when did you join DWARS? What ideals or issues are important to you?
Nikola van Krieken (she introduced herself earlier) is one of my best friends. She told me that she had recently joined the CuCo of DWARS Amsterdam. Because of my interest in politics and preference for green links, I was immediately enthusiastic. Through her, I received an invitation to attend a meeting. I immediately felt a nice atmosphere at the meeting and enjoyed sharing my interests regarding culture with others. So I decided to join the CuCo and organise activities for everyone who shares these interests.
Topics I care about: feminism, climate, health, refugee policy, education, housing and equality.
What appeals to you about the Culture Commission?
Besides reading books and watching series, I find that cultural activities often fade into the background in daily life anyway. I therefore think it would be fun to organise these activities for anyone interested in culture and thus make them more accessible.
What is one culture thing you have ever done / can recommend?
A fun way to learn more about the culture of a city or country is to take a guided cycling tour here. This way, you not only see all the hotspots, but also learn about the city or country. This can be done in Dutch cities as well as on trips abroad. A plus is also that you get to know the locals a little better.
Then some tips on books and series:
If there is one book I can recommend everyone to read, it is ‘Most People Suck’. I think it is very relevant and also written in a way that makes you want to keep reading.
I am also a big fan of history and historical series myself. Recommended series are Die Kaiserin (Netflix), The Duchess (NPO Plus), The Crown (Netflix) and Downton Abbey (Netflix).
What are you looking forward to doing with the Culture Commission?
I look forward to organising the activities, expanding my knowledge about culture and meeting others with an interest in culture in the process.
What else should people know? / Anything else you want to say about yourself?
You can wake me up at night for a matcha latte and avocado toast.
