An important message from the Board (regarding COVID-19)
09 October 2020Dear DWARSers,
The board of DWARS Amsterdam has taken a difficult but unfortunately necessary decision regarding Corona. Due to the high numbers of infections in the Amsterdam region and mainly among students, we have decided to no organise physical activities for the next 2 months. Rest assured, many fun and entertaining activities will still be organised, however, these will be online.
Infections in Amsterdam, as well as across the country, are running very high. For instance, in the past 24 hours, on 5-10-2020, 4581 people tested positive for the virus. In comparison, on 13 April this year during the first wave, there were about 1,300 people who tested positive. The pressure in ICUs is thankfully stable at the moment, though.
Many of these infections are taking place in the Amsterdam region. For example, the corona dashboard now puts the Amsterdam-Amstelland safety region at severe. This means that, according to the RIVM, Amsterdam and surrounding areas are at high risk of becoming infected. The site states: “Tough action is necessary to prevent further escalation and return to a manageable situation”.
So not only are the number of infections increasing in the Netherlands, but there is an even greater increase in Amsterdam and more and more measures are being taken. Besides the fact that the situation in Amsterdam is so uncertain because new measures could be announced at any moment, the fact is that we as an association do not want to contribute to the spread of the virus. Also, as an inclusive association, we want to organise as many activities as possible in which all our members can participate, without running the risk of becoming infected. This is therefore why we, as DWARS Amsterdam, do not consider it wise to organise any more physical activities.
We hope you will join us in facing these exciting times and understand our decision. As mentioned, all our events are online for now. Therefore, keep an eye on the Agenda on our website and hopefully we will see you at one of our activities!
Greetings,
The Quintessentials.
