Waiting is not an option!
18 October 2018Long waiting lists in the mental health sector are unacceptable and a concerted regional approach is needed to combat them. After many stories from employees working in the care to have heard, findt DWARS North Holland North That things need to be different. In the region, we hear about long waiting lists, little tailored care and a halt to mental health treatment. GGZ treatments cannot take place due to too little assistance. That is whyt DWARS in action. People who need care should not have to wait so long for this. Waiting is not an option!
Saturday 20 October, DWARS North-Holland North will be in action. DWARS puts the spotlight on youth care. Municipal councils are reporting on a temporary registration stop for youth care by Parlan (organisation for youth and parenting aid). Earlier, on 3 May 2017, a temporary registration stop was imposed at Triversum (centre for child and youth psychiatry). Now, children and their carers with a request for help for highly specialised mental health care in the Alkmaar region are once again facing long waiting lists.
There is crisis in care, but we hear too little about youth care. The caregivers in youth care have a high workload and a lot of administrative work, this has to change. Despite these issues, they continue to do their best to provide the best possible care to the youth. DWARS is concerned that the long waiting lists are having serious consequences for young people and is therefore taking action! With the #Overlijken action, DWARS wants to draw attention to the problems in youth care. During this action, the young people will come up with alternative plans for politicians, healthcare, aid providers and other stakeholders. DWARS wants things to change in youth care, so that all young people can be helped and do not have to wait for it, which might make care come too late for them. “Care is not a game for me, but together with good education an important basis for the future.” says Verena Längin (chair of working group DWARS North Holland North).
The youngsters will hold their action on Saturday 20 October at 2pm at the Paardenmarkt in Alkmaar. They invite everyone to join them at the Paardenmarkt then to draw attention to the problems in youth care.
