“Weed on rooftop Stopera: green and profitable”
We, GroenLinkse Jongeren Amsterdam are in favour of legalising soft drugs and in favour of municipal cannabis cultivation. We are also in favour of more greenery in the city. As of today, we have permission to combine these by starting trials with cannabis plantations on the roofs of municipal buildings (think the OBA, the Stopera and the Paleis op de Dam).
First of all, this saves huge energy costs: where previously large solar lamps with illegally tapped power were needed, our plan makes it possible to grow pure nature, solar-powered cannabis for Amsterdam's coffee shops.
The benefits of general legalisation are already widely known. Still: the profit the city of Amsterdam can make by selling and taxing soft drugs provides a big economic boost for the city. No more shadowy backdoor practices!
In 2011, a turf was laid on the roof of the Stopera that was meant to retain rainwater; we say, build on that, rebuild cannabis!
The plantation on the roof of the Stopera will be officially opened on 20 April by Ard van der Steur, who will then be allowed to light up the first joint.
