If we keep muddling along like this, it will be too late for climate control later on
05 August 2020- Once again, a debate is taking place in the Netherlands among all kinds of consultants and scientists regarding which ways to use to reach the 2030 climate goals. Biomass, geothermal, aquathermy, wind and solar energy. Of course, discussions on these are essential. However, it sometimes starts to look like talk will go on into the ages with the result that, in the end, no steps seem to be taken either when it comes to ultimately achieving the climate goals. The whole issue seems to become one of talk and discussion rather than one in which it is finally decided what concrete actions will be set out to try to solve it.
- We, as the board of DWARS Limburg, would like to see people start cutting knots to finally move forward practically. During the Corona crisis, we observed the positive effects on CO2 emissions and air quality. This was a sudden turn of events that scientists had already taken into account, but not for the people who are in charge of national policy. In that sense, it seems wise to go by the consensus in climate science anyway and start taking their advice. And by start, we mean really start. Starting in a way that an electric car drives off. Slowly but surely, this is the only way to achieve the climate goals at all.
