Interview DWARSE candidates: Yaela
14 March 2019
1. Introduce yourself!
My name is Yaela and I study European Studies at Maastricht University. In my spare time, I like to be socially and politically active through volunteering and as a board member of Cross Limburg, of course. I have enjoyed living in Maastricht for several years now and it is a place where I have always felt very much at home from the start.
2. Why are you running for provincial council?
I think it is important to make Limburg as social and green as possible. Provincial councils are an opportunity where people can bring up important things that concern them and that they would like to see different or better. This ensures greater familiarity within the entire province and a nice living environment for all.
3. Why are provincial councils especially important for young people?
By voting, you not only choose the people's representatives of the provinces, but also indirectly what the composition of the Senate will look like. So this means that you as a voter also have an influence on not only provincial politics, but also national politics. Therefore, this is very important.
In addition, it is important for the entire province to jointly stimulate and build initiatives and innovations that ensure sustainability. This in cooperation with the various municipalities, civil society organisations, businesses but also residents, in other words, with you!
4. Suppose you get into the provincial councils. What would you want to change first?
What is a very important issue for me is our water.
I think it is essential that the province actively promotes a future with cleaner water.
5. Dilemma: Wind turbines or solar panels?
Both.
Solar and wind complement each other well. Nowadays, combinations of both are also being built. These are wind farms where solar panels are also installed. Because wind and sun both generate energy at different times, the same connection can be used efficiently.
That there is enough need for both is at least a fact!
