DWARS LIMBURG FOR CHANGE: JANOU BONNÉ
21 March 2018Change is one of the core values for DWARS. And what better way to bring about change than to take matters into your own hands and stand for election in the municipal elections? DWARS Limburg wants all Dwarse candidate councillors to speak about what they stand for and how they want to achieve it. Today's interview with Max Tollenaar, number 26 for the Roermond city council.
Tell us briefly about yourself.
My name is Janou Bonné, I am 17 years old and live in Echt. At the moment, I am in my final year of HAVO. Next year, I will study environmental science at the HAS in Den Bosch. In my spare time, I like to read a good book, watch a good series and of course I like to be involved in politics.
How did you end up at DWARS?
Several years ago, I became interested in politics and have been politically active for several months. I joined GroenLinks Echt-Susteren. Here, someone suggested me to join DWARS as well. After doing some further research on DWARS, I immediately felt at home with DWARS's views and ideas and signed up.
Why are you running for the municipal elections?
I look critically at the world around me and I see things I don't agree with. You then have a choice: do you want to help change these issues or do you resign yourself to them? I chose the former and thus stood for election in the municipal elections.
What do you want to achieve in the municipal council?
Above all, I want to show that young people do take an interest in politics and that we also take it very seriously. But I would also like to make our municipality a bit more social and greener.
Why should we vote for you?
If you think it is important that young people should not only be politically aware but also politically active and you want to support young people in this, then I am the candidate you are looking for. Four of our 12 candidate councillors are young, which of course is a statement in itself, and we are showing that young people want and can be politically active.
Dilemma: book or series?
Book! There is nothing better than being absorbed in a book and forgetting everything around you for a moment. You can fill in everything yourself with a book, it requires a lot of imagination, you can go in many directions. Whereas with a series or film, you are stuck with someone else's vision.
