DWARS at DUWO
19 January 2023(English below)
Many of you will have heard from student housing association DUWO last year that your service costs will rise sharply due to high energy prices. At the same time, countless students are in poorly insulated housing. Together with other youth organisations, we sent a letter, and yesterday, together with the Young Socialists, PINK went to talk to the director of DUWO Leiden. You can find this letter below! Our conclusions:
-DUO unfortunately started sustainability too late, but now sees the importance.
-Communication with residents about their sustainability plans needs to be much better.
-The "quick wins" of radiator foil, for example, cannot go fast enough.
-Inhabitants of poorly insulated homes deserve lower rents.
It was a good conversation where the director explained many of their challenges in sustainability. We got a commitment that they will soon communicate their plans to tenants and work on quick wins. Our position on lower rents for poorly insulated homes will also be on the agenda at least at board level.
We welcome DUWO's constructive stance, but keep an eye on whether it does not remain just fine words.
PS: DUWO is pretty okay, but fuck private pledge parasites of course <3
DWARS at DUWO
Last year many of you have heard from student housing corporation DUWO that your service costs will rise significantly due to high energy prices. At the same time, lots of students are living in poorly insulated homes. Together with other youth organizations, we have sent a letter to address this. Yesterday we went together with the Young Socialists, PINK to talk with the director of DUWO Leiden. Our conclusions:
- DUWO unfortunately started with making their buildings more sustainable too late, but now sees the importance.
- DUWO needs to improve communication with residents about their sustainability plans.
- The "quick wins" of radiator foil, for example, can't happen soon enough.
- Residents of poorly insulated homes deserve lower rents.
It was a good conversation where the director explained many of their challenges in isolating their buildings. DUWO committed to communicating their plans with the tenants in the short term and work on the quick wins. Our opinion on lower rents for poorly insulated homes will be put on the agenda at the board level.
We are pleased with DUWO's constructive attitude, but we will keep an eye on whether they won't keep it at nice words.
PS: DUWO is okay, but obviously fuck private leeching landlords <3
