DWARS Leiden-Haaglanden: βPVV, Shame on you!β
07 June 2016During the council meeting of the Hague City Council on Thursday, 9 June 2016, the PVV tabled no fewer than nine motions, seven of which were Islam-related. According to the GroenLinkse youth, several of these motions are not only very discriminatory against Muslims in The Hague, but also hugely xenophobic. They went into the city on Friday to talk to Muslim Hagenezen about what causes such motions.
βWhile it is not illegal to file these kinds of motions, the PVV should realise that they are really hurting fellow human beings and splitting society with this kind of hopeless hate rhetoric. We explain to children that they should not exclude each other and should not bully each other, but apparently the PVV has yet to explain that. PVV, shame on you!β said DWARS chairman W.K.
To give the PVV an idea of what their motions trigger in people, the GroenLinkse youth took to the streets to talk to the Muslim community in The Hague.
βThis hurts.β is a common reaction. Many people also note that these kinds of motions only increase radicalisation and divide society.
DWARS calls on the PVV to stop with hopeless hateful motions that only inflict pain and hatred.
(The following motions, among others, were tabled by the PVV during the general reflections:
-
No suspension due to Ramadan
-
Requests the college: to check the extent to which municipal subsidy money is used for activities promoting Islam, such as the recent Ramadan activities by subsidised theatre De Vaillant
-
Asks the college: to make reducing Islamisation part of its municipal policy;
-
Requests the college: to conduct compulsory education inspections during the Muslim fasting month and the Sugar Festival as well;
-
Requests the college: to stop the possible arrival of an Islamic secondary school in The Hague.
-
Requests the college: not to accept any status holders and asylum seekers in our city;
-
Requests the college: to end the cooperation of the Hague police with the As-Soennah Mosque;)
