What exactly is jihadism? Why do people join groups like al-Qaeda and IS? What does religion have to do with it: is Islam an inherently violent religion? And what could we do to prevent terrorism?
On Tuesday 7 March, we are organising a discussion evening on these questions. Dr Pieter Nanninga, associate professor of Middle East Studies at the RUG, will give a presentation on this, followed by a discussion session with the audience. He researches jihadism and especially the media use of jihadist organisations.
The evening will be held at the GroenLinks premises (Coehoornsingel 87). Walk-in starts at 19:30, the evening itself at 20:00. There will be drinks after the discussion evening.
