Sexism is an issue across society and therefore naturally present in the media. From the news to pop culture, the media has a huge impact on our culture. The media can bring about progressive cultural change but also reinforce stereotypes and gender roles. Has the allegations of sexism and sexual misconduct against many male celebrities triggered cultural change? Has the popularity of #metoo movement finally brought enough attention to the abuses in this industry or are there still structural problems?
Simone Broekman of PINK and the Groningen Feminist Network will therefore talk a little about the situation of women in the media. Afterwards, there will be room for a discussion based on a number of propositions. We will end the evening with drinks! So come all to the PvdA premises (Haddingestraat 10) on 25 October. The walk-in will be at 19:45 and the lecture will start at 20:00.
