Excursion Suiker Unie

The Suiker Unie, which Groninger does not know this company? Every city dweller knows the smell that wafts over the city from September to December, if the wind is at least right. We are organising an excursion to this legendary piece of the city's history. We will start with a lecture on how sugaruni is slowly becoming more and more sustainable, including by fermenting the pulp of sugar beet. We will then have a comprehensive tour of the factory and factory grounds. If you would like to attend, please register at secretaris.groningen@dwars.org.

But, safety comes first of course! Below are the safety requirements we have received from Suiker Unie.

• People with pacemakers cannot enter the factory. Pacemakers, in relation to magnets can cause serious problems.
• Before the route starts, you will be issued with a safety vest and helmet. This should be mandatory to be worn.
• You will follow a route with stairs. You will sometimes walk on grates and, depending on weather conditions, it may be muddy and slippery here and there. In view of this, wearing shoes with slippery soles and heels is prohibited. 
• Taking photographs or video recordings in the factory is not allowed.
• You are not allowed to use mobile phones during the tour. The phone should be safely stored in your jacket.
• During the excursion, you should strictly follow the instructions of the excursion leader.
• Persons suffering from vertigo are requested to inform the tour leader before the start of the excursion.
• All visitors should bring a valid proof of identity. You may be asked to show the proof when entering the factory premises. If you cannot show it, you will not be allowed to enter the premises.
• We are not liable for events that may happen to you due to failure to follow our instructions or carelessness on your part.
