DWARS Groningen x Wanda de Kanter

On 9 June, DWARS Groningen will talk to activist and lobbyist Wanda de Kanter. De Kanter is a pulmonologist who quit working in hospitals to focus entirely on activism for a smoke-free society. She mainly tries to prevent young people from starting smoking and does so by lobbying government, filing lawsuits against tobacco industry and writing books on the subject. She was also involved in founding the political party NLBeter, although she later withdrew from it.

De Kanter comes to talk about the causes and consequences of tobacco addiction, the impact it has on the health gap and the environment. This is because the tobacco industry causes a lot of pollution in the ocean, for example, and is not free of child labour. She will also talk about her work as a lobbyist and about lawsuits against the tobacco industry.

So do you want to learn more about this major social issue? Be there on 9 June!
