Groningen GroenLinks youth against Rutte: 'Put that nuclear power plant near The Hague' (Press release)
02 March 2021DWARS Groningen, the Groningen youth organisation of GroenLinks, is very positive about Prime Minister Rutte's plan to build a nuclear power plant in Groningen. One point of improvement: it would be better placed in The Hague.
“Nuclear power plants are the perfect way not to meet the 2030 climate targets, exactly as the VVD wants. The big advantage is that they take far too long to build, nuclear power is many times more expensive than solar and wind, and it produces radioactive waste,” said Anne Veldkamp, chairman of DWARS Groningen.
However, the honour should not be Groningen's, according to vice-chairman Gijs van de Merbel: “Because the government policy of the past decade has been so fantastically successful in doubling homelessness, demolishing the welfare state and delaying the vaccination campaign, we grant it to The Hague to have these amazing nuclear power plants in its own backyard.”
DWARS Groningen expects, given the VVD's enthusiasm for nuclear power, that Rutte will not object to nuclear reactors in the Randstad.
