DWARS Groningen calls attention to better train network in Europe with homemade train
09 May 2019GRONINGEN - A train passed through the city centre for once on Thursday. DWARS, the youth political party committed to the GroenLinks campaign, used this to signal that it is time for Europe to invest in a better train network.
They made their own train out of old campaign flyers and went around town informing people about GroenLinks's goals in the European Parliament. In this way, they are bringing attention to a sustainable issue in a sustainable way. DWARS Groningen believes that if you want to make a journey of up to 750 kilometres, it should be cheapest and easiest by train. The train should become a full alternative to the plane, as it is much more environmentally friendly to travel by train.
Sjoukje van Oosterhout grew up in Groningen and is a candidate for the European Parliament for GroenLinks. She explains why this is such an important issue: “For a border region like Groningen, it is crucial to literally and figuratively reduce the distance with Europe. With 12 years left to tackle the climate crisis, it is high time to invest in our international train network so that travelling by train is the fastest, easiest and cheapest.”
