DWARS Groningen is looking for a new board!

14 April 2019

While the board is still reeling from the doubling (!) of seats in the Provincial Council and is already getting ready for the European elections, we are also hard at work looking for new board members for the coming administrative year. Would you like to organise debates, lectures and get-togethers, get in touch with local politics and also have a lot of fun? Then the DWARS board is for you!

Do you want to be part of Groningen's most fun and thorniest board? Then send a motivation letter and CV before 5 May to kandidatencommissie.groningen@dwars.org! The interviews will take place on the weekend of 11-12 May, so put it in your diary already. Still not sure which position suits you best? We briefly explain the different positions below.

President

Within the board, the chairman is responsible for ensuring that everyone can and does perform their duties. The chairman thus keeps an overview of the activities of all board members, offers help when needed and addresses others if they do not keep to agreements. At the same time, the chairman guards the atmosphere and ensures that everyone continues to have fun on the board. So as chairman, you need to be organisationally strong, but not too rigid either; people skills are important. Furthermore, I have found that it is nice if you have the time to be able to jump in from time to time or pick up random tasks.

At DWARS so far, the chairman has also always had the function of external contact. As chairman, you are the contact point for all organisations with which DWARS Groningen maintains contact: other PJOs, various GroenLinks bodies, other DWARS departments and the national board. You will also be the point of contact for anyone who wants to get in touch with DWARS and also for the press. So it is useful if you are not too shy and dare to speak your mind.

Secretary

As secretary, you are mainly responsible for organisational matters within DWARS Groningen. You will keep an overview of the board's activities and tasks and ensure formal communication between the members and the board. This formal communication is structured and takes place mainly through the newsletter, social media, the website and mail.

The secretary must ensure that the statutes and regulations are followed by the board and committees. The secretary should also take minutes during board meetings. Moreover, it is his or her responsibility to keep the administration in order. Part of this includes subscribing and deregistering members. General tasks such as co-organising member activities are of course also part of this position, but as secretary, you mainly work behind the scenes.

Treasurer

Of course, the board has one person who is in charge of all the money: the treasurer. As treasurer, you get to see the organisation of DWARS Groningen from very close up: at every DWARS evening, at every meeting and at all other activities, the treasurer has insight into the budget. The treasurer of DWARS Groningen manages the department's budget which is allocated to the department from DWARS.

The treasurer is in close contact with all committees and keeps an eye on whether expenditure goes according to budget. As treasurer, you use the department's bank account and are responsible for bookkeeping.

Internal coordinator

Internal coordinator is the very best position on the board! The ‘internal’ function involves managing the committees within DWARS Groningen and being the link between the committee and the board. Currently, our department has six committees: the editorial committee, Large Activities Committee, Small Activities Committee or KAC, International Committee, Drenthe Committee and the Cooking Committee.

Every committee meeting you attend is another party and it should be clear that you should hold this position for fun. If you are in a busier period, you can also decide not to attend (some) meetings; after all, you also have a life outside DWARS. As long as you keep communicating and keeping up to date with what's going on within the committees.

As internal coordinator, you will be in close contact with the active members. In addition, you naturally attend board meetings. During the meetings, you keep your fellow board members informed of what is going on in the committees, and ensure that questions from the committees are discussed. And if this is not enough for you, you can also take on other tasks.

General board member

Last but not least, the most enjoyable position on the board: general board member. As a general board member, one of your tasks is to support the other board members. You help them where needed, but do not take over their job; it is really meant as support. The general board member has the important task of keeping the board running smoothly. With each other's help, that goes a lot better. You check with your fellow board members whether they are busy at the moment and whether you might be able to offer them support.

The general board member is, in general, responsible for Left Dicks, various debates and you pick up what remains. In addition, the general board member is responsible for DWARS's Instagram account. Of course, you will be at as many activities as possible, which means you get the most out of the board, despite your somewhat ‘floaty’ position.

Send in your application before 5 May!

Would you like to fulfil one of these roles in the coming board year? Then send a cover letter and CV before 5 May to kandidatencommissie.groningen@dwars.org. Interviews will then be held on the weekend of 11-12 May, so keep a space free in your diary!
