Left Pussies: Feminism

On Wednesday 23 November, we organised the recurring event Links Lullen in collaboration with the Young Socialists Groningen and Pink Noord- Nederland. This month's activity was on the theme of feminism and was appropriately named : Links Kutten. It was an evening well filled with discussion starting with the choice of name for the event. The content of the evening consisted of an interesting lecture by Iris Busscher,researcher and board member of the Centre for Gender Studies at the RUG, after which there was room for discussion based on a number of propositions. In the discussion, we naturally discussed Trump's statements and Vindicat's ‘sincere almanac’, events that do indicate that sexism has not yet been eradicated from our society. We also covered statements ranging from ‘Sexism begins in the toy shop’ to ‘Women's quotas are an effective tool for emancipation’. With a turnout of over 40 people, these propositions led to entertaining discussions. The evening ended, as usual, with drinks and the opportunity to chat some more.
