Willemeen will be preserved!
03 March 2019On Wednesday evening, the future of the Willemeen was secured in the Arnhem council. The council called on the college with a motion, which was adopted unanimously, to abandon the earlier decision to have culture and welfare run by two different organisations. This will preserve the unique character of the Willemeen, which incredibly supports different groups of young people with this combination, and we wholeheartedly support it!
For several organisations, including DWARS Arnhem-Nijmegen, it was clear: culture and welfare reinforce each other. Culture gives vulnerable young people a place in society, and these vulnerable young people can be supported in their well-being at the Willemeen. This was also the reason for us to explicitly support this action on our social media, and to passionately plead with GroenLinks Arnhem, among others, to preserve this combination, including by inviting some young people and a culture maker to talk to the group.
In short, we welcome the outcome of the council meeting. We hope the council will implement the motion quickly and skilfully to secure the future of the Willemeen with a combination of welfare and culture.
