Leve de Republiek der Arbeid!

Dear all,

These are weird times, tough times. DWARS stands for a social world, but at a time when the socially good thing to do is precisely to keep social distance, that is not always easy. DWARS also likes sociability, and for that we had come up with all kinds of fun events, which we have now had to cancel. That isolation is difficult, some feel alone, others get caught up in (school) work (at home, that is) without that much-needed distraction and social contact. There are all great projects started, wonderful social and empathetic ways to help people, to connect, but still: loneliness is just pretty stupid. Fortunately, DWARS is also hopeful and optimistic. That's why your department board has come up with something: we'll just do it all nicely online!

Deze week gaan we met elkaar online in debat

De Dag van de Arbeid valt altijd een paar dagen na Koningsdag. Dat die eerste in Nederland wel heel groot gevierd wordt, en die tweede niet vindt DWARS een beetje gek. Een crisis zoals Corona (niks met de kroon te maken!) laat ongelijkheden goed zien en doet iedereen beseffen hoe belangrijke de werkers zijn. Een koning daarentegen mag van zijn voordelen genieten vanuit het paleis waarin hij geboren is. Aan de andere kant hebben veel Nederlanders steun gehaald uit de toespraak van de koning en kan Koningsdag mensen bij elkaar brengen op een bijzondere manier. Daarom gaan wij op de Dag van de Arbeid eens goed over onze monarchie discussiëren. Voorzitter van het republikeins genootschap Bram van Montfoort legt het heil van een republiek uit, terwijl Mathijs van der Tang van de SGP jongeren het opneemt voor onze koning. Tijdens een quiz op het einde komen de twee feestdagen samen!

We present: the DWARS Gelderland Discord Server

Therefore, we have a Discord server. As long as cabinet rules (and possibly if DWARS chooses to continue a bit longer for safety) moneys, there is something to do on that server every week. In succession, we always organise drinks, something social, and a politically substantive discussion (so that means a game night every three weeks). In addition, you may also just hanging out on the server. That way, we will stay connected as DWARSers in Gelderland. During events, you will be expected to be quiet, but we will create separate channels for this (so you can also just chat in one part of the server, while an event is going on in another part of the server).

How do I get to those server?

Two ways! If you are a member of the announcements WhatsApp group, then you don't have to do anything. We will send a link in the WhatsApp group before each digital activity that allows you to become a member. Should you still need help, we will indicate in that app group how to reach us.
Are you not a member of the announcements WhatsApp group, Then fill in the form at the bottom of this page. Provide your email address or your Discord name, and we'll take care of it.

But I don't know how Discord works/have never done it?

Inclusion is an important value for DWARS, we want everyone to participate, and that also means we want to help everyone get on our server. Therefore, we want to guarantee that everyone succeeds.
