Discussion evening: German politics

The election campaign in Germany is in full swing! On 24 September, our eastern neighbours will elect a new Bundestag. In the run-up to this, we are organising a discussion evening on German politics. We have found two good speakers and will conclude the evening with a nice discussion.

Iris Vergeer will speak on Alternative für Deutschland. This nationalist party certainly has a controversial position in Germany. It will be exciting whether they will reach the electoral threshold in upcoming elections. Iris is researching this party for her profile paper. What is the culture like within this party? Is this a populist party and what exactly is it? How is it possible that the party is successful in Germany despite the fact that such parties are sensitive there?

The second speaker is Thirza Scholten, a political science student at Radboud University. She will explain the German electoral system to us and highlight the differences with the Netherlands. She will also discuss the different parties and the chances during the elections.

The evening starts at 19.30 in the Gebroeders van Limburgzaal in Nijmegen's city hall at Korte Nieuwstraat 6.
