State secretary Dijkhoff named most DWARSe politician

DWARS, GroenLinkse youth has named State Secretary Klaas Dijkhoff (VVD, Asylum) as most DWARSe Politician of the Year at its Autumn Congress in The Hague. The political youths present this award annually to a politician who continued to stand for the right cause against the current.

Chairman Lyle Muns explains this surprising choice. "We often disagree with this state secretary, but Dijkhoff clearly states that refugees in the Netherlands never have to sleep on the streets. With his humane stance, he distances himself from an increasingly xenophobic VVD faction. Moreover, he provides a convincing retort to Wilders' hate speech. That is why Klaas Dijkhoff is the DWARSe Politician of the Year!"

Muns continued: "Dijkhoff has to deal with a largely polarised asylum debate. The events in Orange and VVD party leader Zijlstra's statements about asylum seekers being sophisticated profiteers are clear examples. The way he still shows his heart then deserves a compliment."

The corresponding prize will soon be presented to Klaas Dijkhoff.
