Elly van Wageningen voted Best Director 2017
18 January 2018Today, DWARS, the youth organisation of GroenLinks, announces that Elly van Wageningen has won their election as Best Director 2017. Van Wageningen is an alderman in Lelystad in on behalf of the Christian Union. DWARS started this election as an action against the organisation Binnenlands Bestuur, which nominated only men for their annual 'Best Local Director' election.
DWARS chairman Bas van Weegberg: "With this election, we show that there are many good female administrators in the Netherlands. We expect Binnenlands Bestuur to take responsibility and ensure that next year another such counter election is not necessary. It is 2018 by now, not 1836."
Van Wageningen was nominated for her long-standing commitment to sustainability, education and youth welfare. Thousands of people cast their votes over the past two weeks. Van Wageningen received 27 per cent of the votes cast.
