Press release Brabant political youth organisations
14 April 2025In recent weeks, we have watched with amazement some of the ‘reactions’ to the arrival of asylum seekers‘ centres in several Brabant municipalities, in a manner consistent with a ’trend' where democratically elected representatives of the people are threatened and confronted with violence. Tonight it was another hit, this time in Uden.
First and foremost: demonstrating is a fundamental right, but what should not be at the expense of the freedom and safety of others. There is room for dissatisfaction and disagreement in dialogue. Violence is never a way to achieve political goals. We as Brabant's political youth organisations regularly confront each other on substance. But, however big the gap, there is always room for the conversation; on substance and not on man.
We condemn this violent way of ‘doing politics’ and strive to ensure that in future, the search for hostility, division and unrest gives way to civil debate.
