Brabant youth parties give wishes of Brabant youth to explorer
25 March 2023Now that the elections have been held, it is time for the formation, a time when direction is chosen for the next four years. That is why the young people of VVD, Volt, PvdA, GroenLinks, D66 and Party for the Animals are giving concrete points to the scout and later the formateur and parent parties on four important topics for young people. This is done in the areas of climate, public transport, housing and youth participation. These are topics that are very important to all young people in Brabant and on which the new board must make effective policy.
Climate and environment
Ensure rapid improvement of the nitrogen crisis to lift the construction freeze and prevent further deterioration of the biodiversity crisis; greenhouse gas and nitrogen emissions from the bio-industry, mobility sector and engineering industry should scale down or become more sustainable.
The province is committed to a transition to circularity for both resource extraction and renewable energy generation. Climate, biodiversity and local well-being and prosperity are central to this.
We expect the provincial government to take the lead in sustainability by becoming climate neutral. “Endless discussions about procrastination make no sense. Start now, talk later” said Eva Scheffer, Press & Politics JD Brabant. Sanne Watson, president PINK! North Brabant, added: “Countering climate change is not only necessary to keep the earth livable, but is also good for a healthy living environment and countering the biodiversity crisis .”
Public transport
Less urban regions should also be and remain easily accessible by public transport, including in the evening and at night. A ’home delivery bus’ that passes by all small centres from the big cities between 1.00-3.00h gives many Brabant youths more freedom. The night train network between cities in Brabant and Belgium and Germany also deserves improvement, and we want the province to push for this. Bjorn Beijnon, co-chair Volt Northeast Brabant: “Generations of today are already thinking outside the borders of a village, city, province, or country. Investing in sustainable mobility is therefore not only important, but also necessary in the future.”
Living
The current housing crisis in the Netherlands and thus also North Brabant currently ensures that housing is neither accessible nor available for starters and students, this is an almost impossible challenge to overcome. There must therefore be more affordable starter and student housing for that group. This should not only be quick, but also sustainable and future-proof. In addition, vacant properties should be able to be repurposed as housing more quickly. According to Luka Dizdarevic, political JOVD ‘s-Hertogenbosch board member: “Young people are currently unable to compete fairly on the housing market, and we must quickly change this in a sustainable way.”.
Youth participation
Young people are the future and it is therefore very important that the perspective and interests of this group are taken into account in politics. North Brabant's political youth organisations are important in identifying the needs of Brabant's youth and providing a platform for them to speak out on these issues. So involve young people and political youth organisations during the formation process! It is also important for the province to ensure that young people are structurally involved in politics, both provincially and by urging municipalities to do so.
DWARS Board Member for Politics and Campaign Ruben Bals: “It is important that young people's voices are heard . That is why we have joined forces from left to right to jointly stand up for the interests of the young people of Brabant and thus give a broadly supported advice to the explorer and future negotiators, precisely on issues that concern young people. We hope this will be the starting point for ever-improving youth participation in this province. ”
